Description

Could you run this pub in Witton Gilbert?

The Glendenning Arms is a family and pet-friendly wet-led pub, situated on a main, village road, with a real open fire, live sports showings, and lounge available for hire serving small functions.

You will be running a cosy localwhich respects its history, still using the original Vaux 1970s red and white hand-pulls.

The ideal operator will thrive within the community hosting events for the local darts, dominoesand football teams. Classic car and motorcycle clubs also meet here monthly.

The fact that this drinking pub has not been to market in 15 years is a testament to its popularity with locals and important role in the community. It also evidences the pub’s stability as a successful business proposition and potential for the imaginative operator.

Enjoy an inclusive traditional pub with a loyal following, solid customer base, good cask offer, and excellent outside area with plenty of potential. It is located within commuting distance of Durham city centre and enjoys good links to the A1.

About the local area

Witton Gilbert is a quaint country village steeped in history and located approximately 3.7 miles (6.0 km) to the north-west of Durham, through which the River Browney passes.

It is a medieval town of Saxon origin, originally spelled Witun (Wit means white house and Tun means fortified place). The prefix Gilbert was only added to refer to the Norman Lord Gilbert who was highly esteemed as a significant Landowner in the 12th Century.

The location attracts visitors because of its close proximity to the Beamish Museum, Durham Castle, Durham University Botanic Garden, Crook Hall, Durham University Oriental Museum, Wharton Park and Finchale Priory, to name but a few attractions.

Ideal operator

We are looking for a hands-on community-focused Publican. We need someone who loves people and can welcome locals and new guests alike.

If you are passionate about sport, football in particular, charity events and hosting popular entertainment, when safe to do so, this is the pub for you.

 Accommodation

This pub is for a single operator or a couple with two private bedrooms, a private kitchen, and a private lounge.
